Travis Peterson joined the faculty at Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ in 2017 and is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Exercise Science Department. He teaches EXSC 201: Functional Anatomy, EXSC 301: Biomechanics, EXSC 325: Statistics and Research Methods, EXSC 340: Motor Learning and Control, EXSC 494: Capstone, EXSC 496: Directed Research, and UNIV 101: First Year Seminar.

Along with his teaching responsibilities, Travis is interested in understanding the underlying mechanisms that athletes utilize to compete at the highest level. He incorporates force plate and motion capture data collection as well as interactive learning opportunities in his research to accomplish this task. Dr. Peterson is heavily invested in student learning and routinely oversees undergraduate students as part of his research team. His current research involves understanding the interplay of kinetics and kinematics during well-practiced, goal directed tasks which include:

1) The defensive flag pull by collegiate women flag football players

2) The relationship between strength, jump performance and swim start performance off the starting blocks

 3) Defensive change of direction tasks in women soccer players

He has experience working with groups from many different arenas - ranging from middle school classrooms to professional and national level athletes. Travis also currently serves as the Faculty Advisor for the Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ Swimming and Diving program and as Faculty Mentor to the Exercise Science Club.
