For Notetakers
Note Takers are officially set up through Disability Support Services for each semester or term. The notes provided by these notetakers are to help accommodate the needs of students with disabilities who have been approved for this specific service.
Once you are confirmed as a note taker for a class, please follow the below instructions for how to upload your notes to Accommodate.
If you would like to become a Note Taker, please fill out the
We will keep on record that you would like to volunteer. If we need a notetaker for the course, we will contact you to fill this role.
If chosen, we will contact you with the Note Taker Agreement to officially be assigned in this role.
Note Takers are students who are enrolled in the specific course(s) for which notes are needed. We assign one notetaker per class.
Note Takers are responsible to either hand-write or type their notes as a record of what was discussed in class that day. They convey all classroom material — presented orally or printed — in legible written or typed format as objectively and organized as possible. This means that they will take detailed notes on:
- What the professor says during lecture
- What classmates or guest lecturers present
- Class discussions
- In-class films
- PowerPoint presentations
- What the professor writes on the board
- Course assignments when the professor gives oral updates or instructions
Notetakers must submit notes within 24 hours of the class meeting time.
We greatly appreciate the efforts of our note takers. Upon the completion of the semester or term for which you have provided notes, you may be eligible to receive either:
- A small stipend
- Certificate of thanks for volunteering for this form of community service
You need to speak to us about these options.
If your role in providing notes is terminated prior to the end of the semester or term, your eligibility for — or the specifics of — compensation may be altered. We will communicate any changes to you.
You will indicate on your Note Taker Agreement that you would like to receive the stipend.
Once you have submitted your Note Taker Agreement, you will:
- Be confirmed for this position through an email from us.
- Be expected to start submitting notes right away.
You must then go to Student Employment to determine what paperwork is needed to be hired as a note taker.
Student Employment can explain what documents are required. This paperwork needs to be completed within two weeks of signing up to be a note taker.
Once Student Employment has processed your paperwork, both you and our staff will receive an email notification approving you to receive the stipend for providing your notes.
Since you must take notes throughout the duration of the semester/ term in order to be eligible for the compensation, the stipends will not be generated until the end of that semester or term.
You will be notified when your stipend check can be picked up at the Student Payroll office. If you submitted direct deposit forms to Student Employment, you should receive the stipend through those means.
Any Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ staff or faculty who serve as a notetaker will not be eligible to receive a stipend. Only a certificate of thanks for community service could be available.
Student workers on campus are eligible for the stipend.
